(More customer reviews)My son had been pining for the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet all summer long.We couldn't walk through the toy department of a mass market retailer without stopping to closely examine the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet.These examinations lead to the inevitable request that we purchase said toy immediately, which was followed by tears and howls of protest at our unreasonable refusal to do so.He may have, in a moment of weakness, even said please.

Last evening he received the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet as a birthday gift.There being no gift receipt, I cannot identify the source of the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet.As soon as he opened it, he treated us all to a deafening blast from its laser.He fired his first volley of darts, taking out a family picture, a half empty glass (or was it half full?), and a toddler who never knew what hit him.The Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet really shoots the darts hard and fast.It seemed a lifetime of adventure and joy awaited.I hoped that perhaps he'd be able to use the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet to reduce our back yard squirrel population.

Alas, it was not to be so.

Less than three minutes after extracting the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet from its packaging, the boy snapped the head off of a dart in his attempt to reload.Thinking it was my son's ham-fisted efforts that caused the dart to break, I, with surgical precision and a deft touch, attempted to load a dart, only to have identical results.My father, an engineer who spent his career designing complex weapons systems, examined the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet, and used his experience and professional qualifications to snap a third dart.

Within minutes of opening the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet we had only two darts still intact.The three broken darts have all snapped in identical places.Mattel's web site does not offer replacement darts, or even an opportunity to report a potential problem with the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet.With good reason, Mattel barely acknowledges selling the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet.

The Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet is a clever product in many ways.It fits the boy's forearm wonderfully well.I love how it pops up and retracts.The laser is deafening.Mattel cleverly designed a product that youngsters will see and have to have.Mattel cleverly attached a nearly thirty dollar price tag to the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet.After separating you from your nearly thirty dollars, Mattel cleverly does not support the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet.

Less than nine hours after opening, my son advised me that he hates the Toy Story 3 Ultra Blast Gauntlet, and it now sits on the floor beside me, nearly thirty dollars of cast off junk.

And the squirrels continue running rampant in my back yard.....
